Bodyart is a fast growing art-form in New Zealand and I (Ali Gascoine) have been involved as a bodyart model for the past 3 years.
Each year in New Zealand they have the annual New Zealand BodyArt Awards, which is a huge event and attracts a lot of media attention and publicity.

Last month Taupo held its first bodyart event - this being 'Maori Myths & Legends'. Leading up to the weekend's festival and competition there were courses in bodyart and also in mask-making and prosthetics.
My daughter and two of her friends, who are all in their final year at college, attended the bodyart workshops and then went on to compete in the novice section of the competition.
Thankfully the week got warmer as it went along because on the first few days we were all wrapped up in jeans and sweaters and I think the models must have been having second thoughts by this stage!
Mid week I was painted by top professional Artist Nicole Hendenrijk from BodyFx - this was done in the Taupo Museum so that people could get a taste of what was to come at the events over the weekend.
After she had finished Nicole, and her grand daughter, (who looked so pretty with her face painted) and I had lunch at a cafe in Taupo - I got a few shocked looks!
Below are photos from the week in Taupo and also a couple of shots of when I was painted in the New Zealand silver fern. This art was done by another top NZ body artist, Michael George from Xfacda.
