Why

It'd be nice to say that my life has been plain sailing, but it hasn't. Far from it.  I started this blog as a way of releasing my hurt, and healing my heart.

However, a few people have been inspired by my journey to self mastry, over-coming habits and living my life by design and on purpose.

Learning to live alone, dating again, learn how to make me a priority in my life without being self-centred or selfish.  I'm passionate about the details and beauty in life.  It's all about the love - the love of life, the pleasure of doing and learning, and feeling.

I write to connect.  And, I hope you and I do connect.  It's up to you how much.

My story ... so far

I met the man I would marry initially when I was 16, and he was 26 at Lakeside Raceway.  Then I re-met him 10 years later at pitlane Mt Panaroma circuit.  Three dates in two weeks before he proposed marriage.  We were together for a total of 14 years before he died in my arms in 2001 suffering Light Chain Disease, a rare bone marrow illness.

With his departure I had to confront many issues about myself to rebuild my life alone.   The first was my obesity which I overcame by resetting my attitude and self-image.  I had to overcome issues with food, and beat the daily alcohol abuse.  The first step I took was to acknowledge and recognise where I was at.  90kgs and 44% bodyfat.  What?  Nearly half of me was fat.  After training for 2 years with a personal trainer I lost 30kgs to win the 2006 Sydney Women's Overall Bodybuilding title.

I've had to conquer body issues, food and alcohol abuse, fear, isolation, physical and emotional abuse, and lies and deceit. An abusive relationship with a manipulative cheating partner put paid to my both my professional and training accomplishments and self confidence for a while.

Never say quit or die attitude, I returned to the gym in 2009.  However, plagued by injury and a few minor health issues, I am working NOW my way back to Centre Stage but struggling with consistency and dedication.

Growing up, motorsport was a way of life.  Three elders brothers who customised, showed, and raced their machines to national and international championship and World record holding, provided the platform for me  to get started.  I tagged along, and followed in the best way I knew how as a teenager … straight into Sports Management.  I started by assisting the club which quickly developed into a lifelong communications management career.  I  managed the club to become the premier motorcycle racing event promoter within Queensland, and one of the most prominent in the country in the mid-80s.  Since then I have managed race teams, riders, and in recent years the marketing and communications for the short lived Australian Benelli race team.  As a consultant, I have assisted with the government funding for the development of Western Sydney International Dragway.  I assisted Mark Aitchison, an Aussie motorcycle racer get a start in the World Superbike championships, and with the initial Home Town Hero campaign.  Now I assist Australian Men's Wakeboarding Champion and World #3, Dylan Prideaux. My pedigree in motorsport is impressive, and long, to say the least!  I write stories on Australian legends for a magazine.

After moving to Sydney in 1986 I discovered marketing communications by working with major food manufacturers, media and importers specialising in foodservice.  This led to an active interest in tourism and hospitality marketing and advertising.  As a passionate marketing communicator I've been privileged to work with some of the best thinkers in the industry.

When I'm not working, I'm in the gym training for my next bodybuilding comp, or co-promoting the ANB Central Coast bodybuilding competition  I really try to live up to my nickname - the Marketing Muscle.

    Way cool, Laynoie.
What a truly wonderful story of achievement, against what some would call 'odds'.
You rock and continue to do so. All power to you. Keep on trucking!
