Naomi's Mission
Thank you all for reading my world figure tour update, I feel like I have so much to share with you all that I could almost start an ANB website blog page! But that wouldn’t be a good idea because then you’d never shut me up! ;)
Well all joking aside, the positive repercussions since I returned from Toronto & Miami have been extremely exciting and most certainly overwhelming.
Knowing the phenomenal opportunities that would be opened up for me and the number of industry influential people I would meet during my figure tour, I made certain I would prepare and follow some protocol to market and promote myself as an athlete, a sports model, a health & fitness role model and to some extent a label in my own right.
We all know how fatigued, impatient and short tempered we can feel those weeks and days before a show, but I knew despite my feelings of depletion, nerves & anxiety, that I would only get one chance at this and any one contact I made or exposure I gained could provide a valuable opportunity to the next step in my career as a figure athlete and sports & health role model.
Faithful Face Book and the old fashion business card were my best friends everywhere I went and not only have I made an enormous number of friends and contacts but have been approached with some exciting business offers, and some interesting ‘not so’ business offers which I wont publish here [ ;-) ]
I am only just beginning to realise what sort of influence I have had and am having on the people around me. Whilst I am going about my daily passion and desire to live, eat, train & dream a way of life that is almost robotic for me now, at least whilst demanding, certainly not a chore, more and more I am realising that those watching me are benefiting from my own adaptations and growth mentally, emotionally and physically.
Whilst I can’t discuss some potential sponsorship deals that are still pending at this point, I do have one incredibly exciting offer I am so proud to tell you about.
I received a phone call this week from Joe Williams, professional NRL football player, formerly of the Rabbitohs and currently playing for the Canterbury Bulldogs also representing NASCA (The National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy) inviting me to attend an Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory as part of NASCA’s ARMTour (Athletes as Role Models) Team of athletes.
This team of elite athletes usually comprising NRL football players, first grade rugby players, Olympians, and other athletes representing Australia in their respective codes. We will be flown to Alice Springs, to delivery an educational message of sport and healthy lifestyle to the Indigenous children of the community.
The ARMTour program uses sport and high profile athletes as Role Models to encourage Aboriginal children in remote communities to stay in school, lead healthy lifestyles and make positive choices in life.
Since 1997, ARMTour role models have reached more than 6,000 young people in 11 communities in the Northern Territory, Western Australia, East Arnhem Region, and the Tiwi Islands. Many community leaders share stories of higher attendance rates at school, increased participation in sport and less destructive and dangerous behaviour among youth.
I am truly honoured and extremely excited to be given this opportunity by NASCA (www.nasca.com.au) to act as a role model for young children in what is becoming a decedent, ignorant and exceptionally unhealthy society that needs urgent education and nurturing if we are going to have any chance of slowing down this modern day process and challenge its direction entirely.
I leave for Alice Springs on Sunday 27th July until Saturday 2nd August, and I am certain this will be a life changing experience for me and our team of athletes and I will be excited to share with you my stories and photographs on my return.
