Going to the World Titles was something that I would never dare dream about.

So now that I am actually going and competing is a complete spin out.

I would have loved to compete in bodybuilding when I was in my 20’s, but had a lack of confidence. I trained hard in the Gym but was lacking in self belief. I then tore the ligaments in one ankle and all training stopped. Confidence had been my Achilles heal all through my younger years. I was very sporty as a child, reaching State level in Rhythmic Gymnastics. I also was a good sprinter and long jumper as well as swimming. But I never reached my true potential because of confidence.

I had not done any form of exercise for 11 years until I got back into the gym 2 ½ years ago in 2005. It felt good to be back in a gym. I met some wonderful people who encouraged me to compete. To me, the time had come to prove to myself that I could do this and come out the other end unscathed. It was the most nerve racking experience, but I loved it.

I loved it so much, that 2007 was going to be bigger and better. My trainer, Ben Minos had orchestrated a grueling program throughout the year, but it worked. I also had exceptional help from Darren and Justin Hill of Supplement City. They did all of my supplementation and helped me beyond belief. The most amazing thing about these two guys is that they helped because they wanted to, not to benefit from it. For me 2007 was about beating myself from the previous year. To win the O52kg division and the Overall at the Qld Titles was just beyond anything I had imagined. Then to win the O52kg and Overall at the Nationals was out of this world. I must say that without Ben Minos, I could not have achieved this. I know I have do the training, but Ben’s knowledge and experience is vital, he is a master at what he does and is also a great guy, he really gets me.

I would also like to make special mention to Russell Brereton and Craig Sparreboom. These two guys were the ones that convinced me to compete in the first place. But beside that they have been the most supportive and encouraging to me. We have become great mates and they mean the world to me. We always have a laugh in the gym and without them this experience would not have been the same.

I am now working with Jo Rogers for my routine and posing. She is brilliant and also one hell of a nice person. The knowledge and encouragement I have gained from Jo is invaluable.

Body Building has helped me to overcome a lot. I am very fortunate that my husband Chris is so supportive. He is jus the most amazing person and my best friend. Chris and our daughter, Savannah will be coming to Canada with me. To have them there will be the icing on the cake. I am going into the World Titles with the same attitude as last year, my aim is to beat myself from the previous year and anything above that is a bonus. Having said that, I will not come away from Canada wondering, I have done everything possible to prepare and train.
