Since I was older enough to walk I have been into sports if I wasn’t running around playing something I got bored very quickly. My first sport was probably the same as everybody else, little Athletics and I had a go at everything from Long distance running, sprints, high jump, long jump, shot put and many more but I took a liking to long distance running. As I got older I used to focus on cross country running and soccer and I was fortunate enough to represent my state every year through primary school and high school for cross country running, I even won the Jervis Bay fun run when I was 14 years old which was a big thing for a 14 year old kid. Soccer was also something I enjoyed the only problem with all these sports was that it kept me very thin being so active all the time.

When you run around a lot and don’t eat to much you also remain very thin which doesn’t seem to happen with a lot of kids these days as we didn’t have play stations or computers when I was kid we actually had to got outside and play to find entertainment not sit on out butts getting fatter by the day like a lot of kids nowadays.

My parents also contributed a lot to making sure I stayed very active when I was young as they were very encouraging and supportive of my drive to compete in whatever I desired and were always willing to drive me here and there to compete.

Since I had always been a very thin kid growing up I actually started playing with weights on and off when I was about 15 although only light training every now and then I was starting to enjoy it and as I got older about 18 I joined my first gym. Even when I was young trying to get my mates to come to the gym regularly was tough so I kept on going on my own and started to make progress over the next few years. When I was 21 my mates were still going out and drinking heavily all weekend every weekend but it wasn’t for me so I moved in a different direction as I have this very competitive drive in me and I wanted more for myself.

At 21 I met a guy called Garry Oberman who was doing some work at the company I worked for and we got chatting over the next couple of days about training and the fact the he couldn’t find a good training partner so he said to give him a call if I was interested, well I called him the next day and for the next 6 years we didn’t miss a session and we also competed in the NSW Championships together in 1998 and by then I was hooked I also competed in the Australian Championships that same year and finished 3rd.

By this time I just loved the training (Not The Dieting) as the diet was tough as I am sure everybody knows how tough it is for your first comp while you are trying to learn what to eat and when and everyone is giving you advice and you don’t know who to listen to.

I also met my beautiful wife Brenda Tomsett in 1995 and she has given me her full support since day one which you need in this sport and she also won the NSW Overall Figure Title in 2001 and went on to win the Overall Figure Title in the Australian Titles a week later not bad for her first time and someone who just wanted to compete to see what it was all about.

After 98 I had 7 years off to train hard and focus on my career then made a comeback in 2005 at the Central Coast Championships where I won the Under 80kg class and the Overall Title 2 weeks later I entered the NSW Championships trying a few changes in my prep and came 3rd then onto the Australia where I placed 4th.

I was very happy with the results and now knew what I had to do to compete against the best Natural guys and that was to continue to train hard and learn more about dieting properly. 2006 I placed 2nd in the Australia in the under 80 kg then 2007 I placed 4th in the Australia.

In 2008 I won the Sydney Championships under 80kg and the Overall Title which to date was my best condition and I am now focused on the 2008 Australian titles.

The best thing about competing is definitely getting in the best shape of your life and if you could bottle that feeling and sell it everyone would be competing.

The other main thing for me is competing against guys like Murray Graham, Danny Du, Joel Ramantis, Joe Farrugia, Ryan Laos and many more who are all World class natural bodybuilders and it’s a pleasure to stand on stage next to them.

I just want to finish by thanking my best mate Garry as I started this with him and I am where I am now because of his support so thanks mate. And also my wife Brenda who is the best thing that has ever happened to me I look forward to growing old together (and still competing).
