A Mothers Love for her Son

Recently my son Luke (the young guy in the green trunks) competed in the ANB Bodybuilding Championships in Sydney. It was his first competition and he had one of the most enjoyable days of his life.

He was a complete novice, having never even been to watch a bodybuilding event before, let alone compete in one. However, he decided to give it a go.

Everyone was extremely supportive and friendly on the day. This included the help Luke received when he and his mate were caught reading the instructions on how to apply the magic "Dream Tan" just before going on stage! (Thanks to the lovely blond headed lady who was helping out the back!)

During the day, Luke was subjected to drug testing procedures - being a newcomer he expected he would be. Further follow up tests have ensured that Luke is in good health. He supports such testing, as he only agrees to having a natural approach to bodybuilding.

Thanks to Robert Powell and the team at ANB for such rigorous testing procedures, which will ensure this enjoyable amd healthy sport remains drug free!

-Christine Belcher

Editors note: We have published this letter because we believe that after two independently exhaustive drug testing's that were all negative, that this young champion deserves the kudos and well wishes he has earned.

I competed yesterday at the Sydney championships and just wanted to say thank for a great day. Being my first competition I was very nervous, but the show was run very smoothly and well organised. I used this comp to test the waters, so to speak, as to where I stood on the grand scale of things.

Again I was happy but next time I will be a lot sharper, I dieted for 5 long months and lost 24kgs, so I did run of steam a little, a couple of weeks before the comp. My plan now is to stay a lot leaner and come in super ripped on my next comp. not sure if it will be this year as I got a hernia a couple of days ago so I'll get that fixed first. But well done on a great day and again thank you.

Regards
Competitor No. 36 Joshua Johnson, Under 90kgs. 4th place.

Hello friends

What a sensational year 2007 was for the ANB, we broke just about every record there was in every state and 2008 looks like being larger and even better.

I would yet again like to thank my National Executive which is comprised of representatives from ever state, with a special thank you to my hard working General Secretary Ron Ziemiecki and International Judge Phil Lehner who work with me on a daily basis throughout the year.

Thank you also to the numerous promoters in the different regions throughout our great nation and to all the helpers and volunteers in those regions, as far away as Tasmania, Perth and Darwin. With International competitions being targeted by our Australian bodybuilders, with extraordinary results given our relatively small population, I could not be more pleased at our growth and expansion.

My personal goal for the ANB next year is to establish our reputation worldwide on the global stage more than it currently is. In Australia after 22 years of hard work, we are clearly the dominant force in our space, however I want to show the rest of the world that our bodybuilding men and women are the equal of any, anywhere in the world.

Finally, I would like to thank every ANB member that competed with us throughout the year, thank you for being part of our incredible success story and the invitation is extended to you again for next year. We are an open Federation, we do not impose our will on our members, we don’t impose rules and regulations that should be their right to choose themselves. We encourage our members to compete with other Federations if that’s what they want to do, our number one priority has always been and will always be the welfare of the members.

The ANB is the largest and most successful Federation in Australia and as such we see a real need for proper and responsible leadership. We will never be accused of degrading any other Federation or stooping to any low tricks to impress the bodybuilders. We believe that the bodybuilders that put ‘everything’ on the line for their sport, deserve honesty from their Federation and in that respect, we know they are not silly, so we are 100% into supporting the athlete.

That support comes from 100% honest and fair judging results, better venues, great trophies, unrestrained opportunities to compete anywhere they choose and the full honest best wishes from all of us for their personal success. After 22 years we have a great formula, based around caring for our members, and that will hopefully never change. You will get no political infighting from us, no hometown decisions, no federation arguing or lobbying. The only thing we will take with us into 2008 and beyond is the promise to run great natural bodybuilding competitions and to unlock as many doors as possible to make the future better than the past, which in our case is going to be hard because we have the bar set very high already.

I wish everyone a happy Christmas, a safe festive season and the best 2008 imaginable.

Respectfully yours in sport.

Catherine Blanch writes about 2007

Hi Ron,

Hope all is well and life (and the weather) is being kind to you all! 2007 is shaping up to be a great year. I have two personal trainers gearing me up for the 2007 competition season with Michael Barratt achieving amazing results with my form. I am very excited!

This is an excerpt I thought may be interesting for your news section. I am also doing a series of interviews on ABC Radio about the ANB and the positive role it can play for women over 45. I will keep you posted

Grandmasters Newcastle and Central Coast Figure Champion Catherine Blanch has been featured in issue 22 of the leading Australian women’s fitness magazine OXYGEN. Catherine was selected to join a handful of women from around the country to represent Australian women who balanced motherhood, careers and their own health and fitness.

“These amazing women come from all walks of life and are spread across the country, but are united in their passion for living a fitness lifestyle and sharing this life style with their families “ the magazine was quoted as saying

Although accomplished in many areas, Catherine credits her Australian Natural Bodybuilding wins as a personal highlight. Blanch who is currently ranked third in WNSO/ANB Australian Natural Physique Championships Grand Masters category is training with the elite stable of athletes headed by respected coach and International Team Manager Michael Barratt, in the lead up to the 2007 Australian National Titles in October.

but rather by the moments in life that leave us breathless"

you gave that to me.

2006 Australian Championships

Dear Ron,

Thanks for the webart member messages. It keeps me on track and on top of any new information.

I have to agree – the Nationals was the experience I wanted to have! It was what I’d been working towards for months and it was well worth it.

I just want to share my thoughts and feedback! This is a sport that I’d never had the opportunity to do until I hit 42!!! Wow, what a wake-up call… It’s been the best and most challenging, eventful 15 or so months that has ever happened to me in my entire life (apart from having kids – we unfortunately don’t get 1st, 2nd or 3rd for that).

First comp for me was Newcastle Northern Classic (2005) – I “DARED” myself to do it, and have never looked back (I got hooked, lined, and sinkered). I’d never even been to a competition before to watch what goes on, so went in to Newcastle very raw, with minimum knowledge but extremely excited and took everything in like a huge sponge. Along the way I have met some wonderful people - all with the same desire to set achievable goals, to diet hard, train hard and peak at the right time to then perform on the day.

I agree that the NATIONALS one day event is VERY long when you have such a large number of awesome athletes competiting. By the time I was on stage in the evening session (Masters Women Figure) my kids struggled to stay awake (one failed) and about 80% of the crowd had gone which was quite a disappointment not just for myself but for other competitors who were on after my category– the crowd are important us.

One way of keeping the event running to schedule would be to well and truely enforce the rule for 60 second routines – this rule seems to be broken by many competitors – and at “National” levels, a competitor should know better and take into consideration that other competitors waiting their turn. Maybe the rule should state 60 seconds and no longer or the music man presses the off button. It’s unfair on other competitors that have taken the time and I must admit patience to mix and cut their music to stick by the rules set.

I hope that my feedback is useful. Looking forward to another exciting year ahead. Keep up the great work. Do you think a NSW Pre-Competition workshop may be organised during 2007?

I gotta say “I AM LOVIN’ THIS” thanks for having a sport that I can achieve in……

Yours In Figure
Cathy M'Gee

2006 Australian Championships

I wish to convey my sincere and heart felt thanks to you in appreciation for your support and passion of natural bodybuilding. Thank you for taking the time and effort to make every competitor feel special in their own right.

The Queensland and Nationals shows were once again brilliant and always provide a fun and friendly atmosphere for everyone involved. It is an honour to compete with your federation and it is definitely the only one that I will compete with.

So it is back to the grind stone again in the hope that I can put myself back on stage next year with a better physique than this year and defend my titles.

Thanking you once again for everything,

Sincerely,
Russell Brereton

2006 Victorian Championships

Thank you very much for your help and support. I really liked and enjoyed today's show, it was fantastic. Everything was perfectly organised and you did very well. Well done hope to see you on my next contest.

Congratulations on such a good show yesterday. Standing back now really makes me realise what a very high standard of competitors your show attracted and I think that's all to do with you positive attitude and the fact that you make the competitors feel as though they matter.

I know you've got a long list of things that can be improved but overall I have had great feedback from people in the crowd as well as competitors.

Bronwen and Sam both had lots of fun and Bronny is now highly motivated again to compete (possibly end of next year) with ANB.

I've spoke to Fiona last night and she was very positive and proud to be associated with your show - THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING. She has incredibly high values and was extremely happy to finally be associated with a fair federation.

Well done sunshine, you ran a very tight ship and I'm very pleased to be associated with it.

If there's anything I can do to help arrange the next show, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Jo Collopy

A Christmas wish

On behalf of the Australian National Executive, the State Directors, Promoters, Sponsors and volunteer helpers, I would like to wish all members a very happy and safe Christmas break and a wonderful New Year for 2006.

I would encourage all the members who competed in 2005 to set their goals for the upcoming year, stay focused and do the very best that you can. Because you resisted the temptation to take drugs, you should be very proud of your own integrity and also for the example you are setting for the next generation that will follow you.

2005 is drawing to a close and the long awaited debut of the Sports Model category will be launched at our WNSO/ANB Sydney Championships on 28th May, 2006 at the Castle Hill R.S.L. Club. We are very excited about this new phase of our sport.

Finally, as the Executive Director, I would like to thank my National Executive, especially National General Secretary Ron Ziemiecki, you have all worked tirelessly throughout the year and I thank you all sincerely.

Merry Christmas and the best of the season to all of you.

Robert Powell
Australian Executive Director

Awesome Queensland Competition

Hi guys,
Just a quick note. Went to the Queensland ANB on the weekend and just loved it. Very professional show, fantastic athletes, great MCs. Over all very impressed, good job guys. I've been to all the QLD comps this year, and this show by far the best.

PS Just want to say how awsome the event was on the weekend. It is my first year of competing and have to say I had an absolute fantastic time. The event was run professionally but with a lot of fun thrown in. Can't wait to be involved more with ANB competitions in the future. Keep up the fantastic work.

Cheers

Hey Jane,
Jaci Testro rang me and told me that i would have to come to the stunt auditions. she said that she had forwarded my photos to Universal Studios and they were extremely impressed and needed me to come to the audition.

I did all the fight choreogaphy, agility, gymnastics and falls quite easily.

The only thing I couldn't do was pull ups, i can normally do 25 or so but couldn't do any beacause i tore my bicep tendon a couple of weeks ago( i got it surgically reattached over the weekend). i had to be real careful when throwing punches, doing rolls, handstands and trampoline stuff. I did really well in the acting part as well. It went really well. I am being considered for a role. They are going to call me in a couple weeks.

Thank's for helping me become the 1st WSNO/ANB female Professional bodybuilder

I would like to thank you for and accept the Professional status being offered to me as a bodybuilder in the WSNO/ANB Federation. I am looking forward to the new challenge that this has now set for me. To achieve this in such a short period of time with the WSNO/ANB Federation is a nice surprise. I feel we have extremely strong competition in Australia so I know that when the team go over to Canada in June that we will all do very well.

After competing in my first year with the ANB I picked up an awesome sponsorship with Bodyscience, www.bodyscience.com.au what a difference that has made for me. They have given me the ability to utilise supplements as I need and have provided professional advice which was extremely helpful during the last year of training. In addition to the supplements I have a great trainer, David Driscoll from befittingimage@supertraining.com.au and my husband Adam who have both provided me with more knowledge about training and have persevered with me to push me that little bit further.

I cannot go past the ANB team also, anytime I have any queries regarding anything to do with training or competing I am able to either email or call one of you guys, in particular you Ron, so thank you for helping me become the first WSNO/ANB female Professional bodybuilder.

By achieving this title I have also been able to secure a clothing line sponsorship with MOB clothing 0405138888. These guys are saving me a small fortune in training gear and they are even going the extra step and providing me with evening wear (so you can imagine how much I am loving that!). I'll have my website up & running soon thanks to Bodyscience so everyone can get to see the great stuff they have.

I am hoping I can bring the Professional title home but I am realistic that the competition is going to be very strong with a lot more competitors. I'm up for the challenge though and look forward to representing Australia in June.

Once again, thanks to the WSNO/ANB team for being so FANTASTIC & supportive. The QLD trip to the Australians this year was great fun & to come home with a victory for NSW was the icing on the cake.

Thanks again.
