SQUABBLING COUPLES: COMEDY GOLD FOR MARRIAGE REF

Jerry Seinfeld and Channel Seven have put the call out for Australian couples with a domestic score to settle to feature on the new comedy panel show, The Marriage Ref.

The show, created by Jerry Seinfeld, will make the most of the comedy goldmine that is marriage as couples mount their arguments about issues both big and small to a celebrity panel.

Parenting, in-laws, bad habits or petty squabbles, no issue is off limits on The Marriage Ref.

For the Australian version of the show, Channel Seven is looking for couples with character, who aren’t afraid to speak their mind and have a dispute or two for The Marriage Ref team to settle.

These lovers tiffs, which form part of any healthy relationship, will be the centrepiece for this new format. But don’t be fooled, this is all about fun, not therapy.

“It's just the fun of the arguments, that's what the show is about. There's nothing in the show that’s really too heavy or serious,” says Seinfeld. “I think anytime you have a man and a woman trying to get along it's funny. But what's different about this show is you're seeing the actual arguments and some are very unusual, things that a writer couldn't make up.”

The celebrity panel for the show each will comprise of sports stars, entertainers and comedians, who will all offer their own unique take on household bickering.

Seinfeld, who is currently working on the US version of the show and can’t wait to launch the concept in Australia, said the subject matter is universal and would appeal to a wide audience for two reasons.

“Either you have the same problem or you are glad you don't, so either way you're happy to see another couple arguing,” he says.

The Marriage Ref is produced by Southern Star Entertainment for Channel Seven.

Bert's Family Feud Audition -14th November 2006 (Melbourne)

Dear Ron

I am writing to ask your assistance in finding 2 teams of Natural Bodybuilders - one male and one female - to appear as contestants on a special one-off episode of Bert's Family Feud, as part of our Mad Monday series. Traditionally these specials see 2 teams of 'celebrities' playing against each other - and the winnings, which can be as high as $100,000 (and a guaranteed minimum of $5000) go to charity.

Over the weeks we have had:

Holden v Ford Racing Teams, Opals v Boomers Basketball, QLD v NSW State of Origin ARL, Men's v Women's Australian Netball Champions, Royal Women's V Sydney's Women's Hospital, Circus Oz v Silvers Circus, CFA v MFB and so on.

There are 4 players on each team.

The first step is to attend an audition. This is planned for TUESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER at 7 pm at a place to be confirmed. I am also approaching the INBA to assist in finding the very best. 'Best' to us as you can imagine is bright, fun people who are ready for some fun - the bodybuilding side is secondary. Having said that, people with titles are a great plus too. Can I ask you to put forward the names of say 8 men and 8 women who would like to attend the audition, and from these people (and others from the INBA) we will choose the final 4 men and 4 women.

Due to logistics, we need to audition/record in Melbourne, so all contestants need to be Melbourne based. We intend to record the episode next year some time at a time appropriate for the bodybuilding calendar.

Can I ask you to contact your Victorian head asap and get the word out among your people. It works best if the participants form themselves into teams of 4 and register with Maria on familyfeud@grundytv.com

I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible with an indication of the response, so we can move forward on a great opportunity to not only raise money for charity, but present the fun side of your industry.

Yours sincerely

Michael Pope
